Passport Applications
What are the requirements for an applicant?
Canadian Passport applications require the applicant to look for a warrantor, also known as a guarantor, who must know the applicant for a minimum of two years. If not applicable, an option is available to fill and sign the “In Lieu of Guarantor form”. The form is obtainable at the passport office only. To commission the form, a Notary is required. We can also notarize the form.
Is it required for the applicant to sign in front of a Notary?
The applicant must sign the passport application in front of the Notary. For proof of identification, you are asked to provide a document that clearly states your full name and has a photograph. This could be a passport, driver license, or similar documents.
Passport Application Guarantor and Notary Services: What You Need to Know
When applying for a passport, having a suitable guarantor and notary services are often essential steps. Here’s an overview of the process:
Guarantor for Passport Application:
- A guarantor is someone who can vouch for your identity and confirm that the information provided in your passport application is accurate.
- Your guarantor must be a Canadian citizen who meets specific criteria set by the passport issuing authority.
- Typically, a guarantor should know you personally for a certain period and be available to complete and sign the required documents.
- Guarantors often include professionals such as doctors, pharmacists, police officers, and other individuals of good standing.
- Your guarantor will need to complete and sign the “Declaration of Guarantor” section in your passport application form.
Notary Services for Passport Application:
- Notary services involve a certified individual (a notary public) who can authenticate documents, including passport application materials.
- Notarization adds an extra layer of credibility to your application documents, assuring their authenticity and compliance with legal requirements.
- Notaries can verify your identity, witness signatures, and provide an official seal or stamp to validate documents.
- If notarization is required for certain documents, ensure that the notary public is authorized to perform such services in your jurisdiction.
Benefits of Professional Assistance:
- Enlisting the help of a notary public and a suitable guarantor can streamline your passport application process.
- Their involvement ensures that your application meets the necessary standards and reduces the likelihood of delays or rejections.
- Professional guidance helps navigate the technicalities and legal aspects of the application.
